Fans fans fans

For a friend's birthday present, S, J, J's daughter and myself braved the ELEMENTS to attend a signing event of Su Hui Lun. First time I have attended such stuff and the 4 of us are not even fans. Didn't know it was such a hassle - first we had to go to SOHO to collect the tickets to enter the arena. Then we had to SEARCH for the area because it was held at a more remote part of a shopping complex. When we reached there early, we found that the organisers are not selling her CDs on site (although we were informed otherwise when we collected the tix). Hence we walked to another shopping complex at China World to find the CD - to no avail. When we got back to the arena, the winds picked up. We had to QUEUE with a baby pram in tow (others probably thought we are crazy to bring a baby) - J was definitely the youngest there. A large area was encircled with metal railings but only 15% was filled up with an assortment of young and middle-aged fans. A while later, a couple of pple wearing panda suits entered and posed for photographs. All this out in the open and amid strong winds. THEN we found out that Su Hui Lun will sing first before signing anything and she will sing for 1.5 hrs!! That is way out of our initial expectation to get the signature and LEAVE. I hate to leave then for French class while S and J and of course little J braved on..... they managed to get the signature after being forced to buy a postcard with comes with her new CD that has to be collected in Xidan. This friend of ours owe us BIG TIME ne!!!

Musical butts

Although it is summer and few buses here have air conditioning, I would still take a bus when there are some winds. When it is crowded, it's more of a game of muscial chairs - which butt is the fastest out there to plonk on a chair! Doesn't matter whether you are standing next to the chair which is just emptied or you have a kid, it's FAST BUTT or you have to stand for the long journey or veer around when the bus makes a sharp turn. Buses here also started to use the card system instead of giving out paper tickets. There is a 'meter' for you to touch your card and hear a beep when you board the bus. You don't need to use your card when you disembark since the ticket price is a flat rate for most distances in BJ. They are learning fast ne.... will prob match HK soon in a few years.

Summer of 06

Weather has turned warm, even hot in BJ. Tough to venture out when there is no wind. Dusty still air that keeps out the sun. The sun is still there but the dust screens out the light. Locals are also changing their fashion. No one wears thick jackets now but dress in short sleeved tops and roll up their pants to 'air' a little..... Winter is refreshing but summer can be depressingly sleepy. Tires you out easily and of course, in my case, makes ME darker all over again. I rather wear sleeveless but here, not many pple do that and I don't want to stick out.
