Winter Sonata

Woke up to first snow of winter 2006!! A pretty white blanket of mushy soft flakes gently covering the grounds and roads around the apartment (see photos uploaded).... today's weather forecast predicted a HIGHEST of -2 deg....yeah, freeze your butt off!! But still, pretty :) Wanted to dash out and feel the feathery wings melt on your face, something like having mini ice cream freezes on your skin. The snow is heavy by BJ's standards and according to news, the roads were jammed for several hours while vehicles navigate carefully on the slippery roads. Will prob be going out later as I drag P outside with me to experience the frosty white. We didn't have a white Christmas but we are going to have a white New Year!! While in the midst of seeing God's wonder and beauty at work, news of Saddam Hussein execution came thru. Altho I have no warm feelings for the guy, it is sad to know that violence towards a man has occured. Perhaps he was a evil dictator and harmed thousands.... but somehow  I can't say "good riddance" or "well done". May God have mercy on us all!

And a Blessed Christmas to one and all!

Christmas in BJ this year is like a viral flu: you don't know how it came on to you and suddenly the whole city just caught on with no reason. More shops and stalls sell bells, blinky lights, huge Santa pics and even more stangely, more people seem to be buying them. I've asked some locals and they think it is all western craziness with no inkling WHY they celebrate this particular day. They are buying into the holiday spirit to ATTRACT customers to their own shops or hotels since the younger generation these days go for anything western and cool. And of course shops will sell anything to get foreigners to spend more. One driver told me he thinks it's all a waste of money since it is not a national holiday and people still go to work on that day. BJ is warming up to Christmas and I wonder if it even makes sense to any of them. Not that it makes more sense bk in Spore either.....I like Christmas :) it's special day for me as I reflect on the past year and thank God for His many blessings in my life. May your Christmas be a meaningful one as you gather with your loved ones to share in love and joy and not forgetting great food :) Shalom!!
